Nature: Structure Fire (Assist 83) – Ladder requested

Address: 24730 Lawson Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday, February 19th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company (83) with a working residential structure on Lawson Road near the intersection of Zoar Road. Additional incident information requested the ladder truck response to the incident as well.

The initial company dispatched alerted Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company for an outside fire near the fireplace.  Upon arrival of Millsboro's emergency response apparatus it was immediately upgraded to a working residential structure with assistance from Indian River being requested.

Emergency response units from Indian River included: Ladder 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were to assist the Millsboro Volunteer Fire with fire suppression and other details as directed by their Officer in Charge (OIC).

It was reported to have multi level residential structure with fire and heavy smoke showing at the arrival of the initial emergency response units.

Other fire company alerted included Dagsboro (73) to provide stand-by coverage for Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) to provide stand-by coverage for Indian River (80).

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.

The Millsboro VFC was dispatched to a chimney fire at the above location after a passing motorist reported a fire coming from the chimney of the residence.

Upon arrival of the Engine, the alarm was upgraded to a house fire as heavy fire was venting from the attic area. The structure fire response added the Indian River VFC and SCEMS to the alarm.

Crews then made an aggressive attack and held the fire to the attic and second floor.

Crews from Millsboro and Indian River then worked for approximately an hour doing salvage and overhaul.

The Dagsboro VFC provided an engine to cover Millsboro during the incident.
