Nature: CPR & AED Training Initiatives

Address: 32628 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE

Indian River Honors American Heart Month and offers training..

In recognition of February being American Heart Month, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company coordinated a cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) recertification training event.    On Saturday, February 16th, approximately 24 volunteers of the fire service attended a collaborative training partnership with the Delaware State Fire School and the Sussex County Paramedics to enhance, recertify, and fine tune their respective CPR and AED skills.

As you know, American Heart Month is intended to highlight the issues associated with poor eating habits, lack of exercises, and other items that cause heart disease. Heart disease is a major public health problem in the United States. Every year, approximately 715,000 persons in the United States have a heart attack, and approximately 600,000 die from heart disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for U.S. men and women, accounting for one out of every four deaths each year.

Cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, costs the $312.6 billion each year pursuant to published statistics. This total includes the cost of health-care services, medications, and lost productivity. Cardiovascular diseases also are leading causes of disability, preventing affected persons from working and enjoying family activities.

Illustrated herewith are various photographs of the training exercises.
