Residential Structure Fire - Origin Suspicious

On Saturday afternoon, February 9th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a structure on Amber Drive in the River Winds development off of Oak Orchard Road. It was reported to be a working residential structure fire incident.

Emergency response crews included Engine #80-1; Rescue 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from Long Neck facility. A full company response from our neighboring company from the west, Millsboro Fire Company which included Engine, Tanker and Rescue. As well as a full company response from our neighboring company to the east, Lewes Fire Company which included multiple engines to the scene as well as station standby crews in Oak Orchard and Long Neck.

Responding volunteers were able to clearly identify this incident as a working alarm.

Engine #80-1 was the first arriving unit under the direction of immediate Past Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who requested the activation of multiple fire suppression lines. Rescue 80 was directed out of the immediate fire suppression lane and assigned to complete firefighter support functions for self contained breathing apparatus air monitoring and filling. Tanker 80 was assigned to coordinate water supply to Engine #80-1. All other responding apparatus where assigned to coordinate manpower resources as well as fire ground suppression activities.  Other ancillary fire suppression and ventilation activities included roof ventiliation, incident overhaul, and scene preservation to assist with the pending ciiminal investigation.

The Lewes Fire Department also provided standby engine coverage at Indian River facilities.

It appears that this was a vacant residential structure was very tempting to someone and a nearby pizza delivery personnel was able identify potential areas of interest for origination of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.

There were no reported firefighters or civilian injuries.
