Nature: Carbon Monoxide Detector Activation

Address: 31304 River Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, January 26th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a carbon monoxide detector activation on River Road. It was reported that the residential occupants felt lite headed and encountered a headaches.

Emergency response crews from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were assigned to evaluate the interior and exterior residential structure for potential CO leaks, monitor the interior levels of gases, and evaluate the condition of the concerns.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is odorless, tasteless and invisible compound produced by incomplete combustion of carbon containing materials.  It is often referred as the “silent killer” because it is virtually undetectable without using detection technology and most people do not realize they are being poisoned.

A carbon monoxide detector or CO detector is a device that detects the presence of the carbon monoxide (CO) gas in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. The only safe way to know if carbon monoxide is present is to install carbon monoxide detectors (alarms) on every level of your home and in sleeping areas.

CO detectors detect and warn people about dangerous CO build up caused, for example, by a malfunctioning fuel-burning device. In the home, some common sources of CO include open flames, space heaters, water heaters, blocked chimneys or running a car inside a garage.
