Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS

On Monday, January 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with reported entrapment on John J. Williams Highway in the area of Brandywood. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision, with one patient trapped and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was alerted to respond as well.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. The Traffic Control Unit 82 from Lewes Fire Department also made a response to assist with the established detour on Hollymount Road.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate the complete closure of John J. Williams Highway, assist with patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, and scene safety.

Incident Command Tasks were coordinated via Mario Street, Second Assistant Chief who directed resources to complete the aforementioned tasks. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was cancelled and the patient entrapment was not confirmed.

It appears that a BWM sedan was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway, attempting to turn into the Brandywood was struck from behind by a westbound Kia Soul. Both vehicles suffered significant damage and both occupants were transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observation by the local emergency medical services provider.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the road closure and traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
