Delaware Day Observance - December 7th

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company takes an opportunity to remember and observe Delaware Day – December 7th.

Delaware Day has been observed since 1933. In 1787.

Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution thereby becoming the First State in the new nation.

December 7th was established as Delaware Day thanks to Paul Burkholder and the Rotary Club of Georgetown which made a statewide effort to gather over 6,000 signatures on petitions to have this day established as Delaware Day. The proclamation was approved by the Delaware General Assembly via a House Joint Resolution on November 29, 1933.
