Thursday November, 29 2012 @ 21:04:44 Nature: Water Rescue Priority 2 Search Location: 26614 - 26617 Backstay Rd., Millsboro, DE 199 On Thursday evening, November 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a water rescue – priority two search for reported flare sighting in the Indian River Bay. This information was provided to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) – Indian River Inlet Station who alerted the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Emergency response units included Utility 80-08 with 80 Marine 1 and Rescue from the Oak Orchard facility; Utility 80 and 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as Incident Command 80. Each unit was assigned to different sectors in the area with one vessel, 80 Marine 2, reporting to the Pot Nets Bayside Marina and one vessel, 80 Marine 1, reporting to the Massey’s Landing Marina. Both marine units were to launch and coordinate a grid search with the USCG vessels in the area. Search grids were utilized from Pot Nets Bayside area toward Massey’s Landing across to White’s Creek and east back towards Pot Nets area. In total, four marine units were utilized and the various aviation units were not available; however, the results of the searches were unfounded. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated access at the various marina entrances. All marine units were returned to quarters at approximately 10:30 p.m.
