Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

Address: Mount Joy Rd & Townsend Road, Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday afternoon, November 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on Mount Joy Road in the vicinity of Townsend Road. It was reported to be two vehicles and was reported to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center via Onstar.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 and Utility 80-08 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

It appears that a white Buick sedan was traveling north on Mount Joy Road being followed by a tan Dodge Neon. The operator of the Buick was older and not familiar with the area and realized that he had missed his desired turn. The operator of the Buick then attempted to make an abrupt u-turn, pulling into the path of the Dodge Neon. Both vehicles collided and continued to travel on the shoulder of the roadway.

Rescue 80 was to coordinate and assist with patient assessment, incident assessment, and duty delegation to incoming fire police and other emergency response unit.

Upon checking, the additional responding units were downgraded to only include Rescue 80.

Both occupants of the motor vehicles were transported to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
