Sunday October, 14 2012 @ 20:45:22 Nature: Structure Fire Location: Giant Address: 25935 Plaza Dr Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday evening, October 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a structure fire on Plaza Drive off of John J. Williams Highway. It was reported to be a fire in the trash compactor room of the Giant Foods. Emergency response apparatus included Ladder 80, Engine #80-01 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. Incident Command job functionalities were coordinated by Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who requested that that the Ladder take the right rear of the building and prepare for set-up; Engine #80-1 provide assistance to Ladder 80 and hit the nearby hydrant as well; Engine #80-3take the hydrant at the front of the store and Rescue 80 address the storefront. Chief Deery identified a smoke condition inside the grocery store and crews were sent to investigate. It was determined to be the trash compactor as identified in the dispatch that was placed under control. Natural ventilation was utilized for the store location.
