Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

Early Saturday morning of September 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road between Rehoboth Shores and Pot Nets Bayside - Main Entrance. This incident was originally reported as a property damage incident and upgraded to a personal injury accident in order to have the vehicle’s occupants evaluated.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. Indian River’s initial response unit was operated by a pre-arranged stand-by crew for preparation of the Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Conference and Parade activities during the weekend of September 14th thru 16th.   This pre-arragned stand-by crew was from Lower Chichester Fire Department in Linwood, Pennsylvania. 

It appears that a dark green, four door sedan was traveling north on Long Neck and left the roadway for an undetermined reason striking numerous trees. The vehicle’s occupant initially refused medical attention and then desired to have additional medical observations.

Emergency response crew assignments included to assist with patient stabilization and care, where needed, and perform vehicle stabilization, if needed. The local emergency medical services (EMS) provider attended to the vehicle’s occupant.

Engines  #80-1 and #80-5 were cancelled as they were approaching the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
