Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS (involving vessels)

Location: Indian River Inlet

Address: Coastal Hwy, Dewey Beach, DE

On Monday afternoon, September 3rd, the Indian River (80), Bethany Beach (70), and Rehoboth Beach (86) volunteer fire companies were for a water rescue incident in or near the Indian River Inlet in the area of Burton’s Island. It was reported to be two vessels with possibly five (5) persons and one person injured.

Emergency response units included: Sussex County Paramedics from the Long Neck via Indian River Marine Units; marine units from Bethany Beach, Indian River and Rehoboth Beach; ambulances units Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach to the Indian River Inlet as well as the local emergency services provider from Long Neck to the Massey’s Landing facility; the DNREC Marine Police Units; and the US Coast Guard.

The marine units were able to identify, retain and transfer all vessels and persons back to the United States Coast Guard Station – Indian River for additional medical observations.

BREAKING: Boating Collision in Inland Bays

One woman received minor injuries after a boating collision in the Indian River this afternoon.   Officials say 2 boats collided in the area of Buoy 14, but both boats were able to get back to the Indian River Coast Guard Station under their own power. 

Emergency crews are on the scene of a boating crash near Buoy 14.  Several fire companies, the Coast Guard and DNREC are on the scene and witnesses say both boats have sustained significant damage and are being anchored.  There are injuries and all boaters will be taken to the Indian River Coast Guard Station.

BREAKING & UPDATED: Boating Collision in Inland Bays – 1 Injured & 1 Cited

UPDATED – 6PM– DNREC Enforcement Agent Sgt Greg Rhodes tells WGMD there no serious injuries after a boating collision in the Indian River this afternoon.   Officials say 2 boats collided in the area of Burton Island around 2pm, but both boats were able to get back to the Indian River Coast Guard Station under their own power.  The operator of one vessel was charged with failure to maintain a proper lookout and no boating education card.
