SUSSEX Co., De. - Officials in Sussex County say lightning strikes caused at least 16 house fires.

A home on Johnson Road in Selbyville was hit hard. Roxana firefighters say they ran out of water because of the storms and used an excess of 200,000 gallons. Departments as far as Gumboro had to shuttle water over to the residence.

Two teenagers were reportedly in the home at the time of the incident. "From what they told us, when we first got here, they were sitting there and it looked like the lightning went inside the house. They smelled fire and then called a friend. By the time we got here, they were in the back of a pickup and we could see flames shooting through the roof," Assistant Chief at Roxana Fire Company Christopher Magee said.

Crews had to take a break midway through the night because of lightning strike. A ladder truck was struck and a firefighter was shocked. Officials say he lost feeling in his arm, had a panic attack, and then passed out - he is now in stable condition.

•  Engine company cover up assignment for Rehoboth Beach (86) Station #2; and

• Automatic fire alarm incident at Baywood Club House.

Emergency response units included: Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as Engine #80-1 and Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility.

Emergency crew assignments included an interior and exterior evaluation of the structure to ascertain the cause of the automatic fire alarm due to the fact that the alarm annunicator was silenced prior to arrival of fire company representatives.

The evaluation yield an alarm activation in area 1 of the commercial structure.
