Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

Address: Long Neck Rd & Banks Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday morning, August 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road at the intersection of Banks Road.

Emergency response personnel were able to identify that no accident existed at the Long Neck and Banks intersection: however, additional information yielded the location determination to be Long Neck Road and John J. Williams Highway at the entrance to Dash In. It was identified as a single vehicle incident at this location.

Upon additional evaluation, the vehicle located at the Dash In stopped at this location; however, the accident occurred on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Baywood and an additional vehicle was located at that location as well.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency responding units to the Dash In included Engine #80-5 and Engine #80-1 while Rescue 80 was assigned to the Baywood location. All assignments included vehicle stabilization; scene stabilization; patient assessment and evaluation; traffic control and debris mitigation.

It appears that a black Volkswagen sedan was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and a silver KIA sedan was traveling east on John J. Williams Highway and collided for an unknown reason. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage on the driver’s side. The Volkswagen continued to travel west on John J. Williams Highway for approximately 1 mile before stopping at the entranceway to Dash In.

The local emergency medical service provider transported one person from each location to the nearby medical facilities for additional observation.

The Delaware State Fire Police were assigned to both locations to coordinate traffic control. Traffic along John J. Williams Highway was limited to one lane for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
