Nature: Water Rescue Training Procedures

On Wednesday, July 25th, the Indian River (80) volunteer fire company conducted training evolutions with their respective marine units to enhance emergency response skills of the volunteer fire and rescue personnel. 

These knowledge, skills and ability training evolutions included: 

• Marine Unit Handling and Trailering;
• Vessel Maneuvers and Training;
• Electronic Instrumentation and Radio Familiarization;
• Docking;
• Vessel Maintenance; and
• Waterway Navigational Topics. 

Additional instructional topics included assignment discussion for the various sections:

Fire Police were discussing initial location objections which included:

• securing the launching areas for incoming emergency response marine unit yet keeping ramps available for normal boating traffic;
• establishing staging areas for apparatus and  other incoming emergency response personnel;
• establishing landing zone areas for aviation units, if needed; and
• monitoring and fulfilling scene preservation, crowd control, and limiting access to emergency responders.

Firefighters were discussing initial implementation requirements which included:

• ensuring adequate and qualified manpower for vessel operation; and
• ensuring adequate and knowledgeable persons for addressing launching techniques as well as trailering operations.
