Story
Wednesday July, 18 2012 @ 23:15:15 Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Wednesday evening, July 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident in the vicinity of John J. Williams Highway and Mount Joy Road. It was reported to be a single vehicle that had struck a utility pole. Indian River’s Incident Command was coordinated by Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who provided a scene synopsis which included that a single vehicle has sheered the utility pole causing significant damage to the vehicle and rupturing the fuel tank. The occupant of the vehicle was out being evaluated for injuries. It appears that a blue Dodge pickup was traveling north on Mount Joy Road and did not successfully navigate the sharp curve at the Cannon Road intersection and lost control allowing the vehicle to sheer the utility pole. Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, the Delaware State Police, and the local emergency service provider. Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate vehicle stabilization, where needed; assist with patient stabilization, where needed; commence with mitigation measures to evaluate the severity of the fuel leak and provide traffic control assistance because Mount Joy Road was entirely closed for the duration of the incident. Incident Command notified EOC that additional resources would not be needed. The respective utility company will be required to replace the telephone pole as a result of the incident. The Delaware State Police are investigating.
