Nature: Vehicle Fire

Location: Leisure Point, at the entrance

Address: 32796 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday afternoon, July 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire in the entrance area to Leisure Point off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a fully involved vehicle.

Emergency incident response included: Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crew assignments included to initiate an aggressive fire suppression attack to mitigate the incident and prevent further spread of the fire; implement roadway closure during the suppression phase of the incident and to establish a safety perimeter for the firefighters.

The incident command functionalities were coordinated by Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who requested Engine #80-1 to provide manpower and water resources for fire suppression while Engine #80-3 was to supply water resources to Engine #80-1 where needed.  Additional crews were assigned to assist with overhaul and traffic control.

It appears that the vehicle fire may be the result of a broken or malfunctioning fuel line.  The driver of the vehicle believe the vehicle had run out of gas.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided the necessary traffic control procedures.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
