Nature: Fire Nature Unknown

Location: Pot Nets Bayside Main Gate Guard House

Address: Millsboro, 19966

Early Saturday morning, June 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a fire nature unknown and upon arrival of initial responders a brief community evaluation was launched to ascertain the origin of the smoke.

Initial emergency response included Engine #80-1 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility. These responders found a heavy smoke condition near the main entrance to Pot Nets Bayside with greater concentration near Breakers and Willowmere streets as opposed to the North Rim or Killdeer streets.

Engine #80-1 quickly evaluated the Breakers Street areas and then went to the Pot Nets Maintenance Yard and Compound area with no immediate identification of issues.   Engin #80-3 quickly evaluated the Killdeer, North Rim and neighboring streests with no immediate identification of issues.

Engine #80-1 returned to the Breakers Street area and initiated a foot patrol assignment which quickly yields a brush field deep into the wooded area between Breakers and the Maintenance/Compound area.

Additional resources were commandeered from Tunnel Companies with front end loaders to gain access as well as additional brush trucks from Indian River (Brush #80-0; Brush #80-00; and Polaris 80) were directed to the scene.

The Delaware State Forestry Services were also requested to the scene.

Firefighters were able to clear the scene at approximately 7:15 a.m.

Early morning brush fire in Pot Nets Bayside under investigation

The Delaware State Forestry Services is investigating a brush fire early this morning in Long Neck.

Just after 4 a.m., Indian River firefighters responded to a call for smoke and fire at Pot Nets Bayside. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke near the main entrance and even thicker smoke further into the development. Firefighters continued to search for the source of the smoke, and they eventually found a fire in an area of brush near the maintenance area.

It took firefighters just over three hours to put out the fire.
