Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Saturday morning, March 3rd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the intersection entrance to Super G / Giant Foods. The incident was reported to have three vehicles involved with reported minor injuries.

Indian River’s incident response include: Engine #80-5 from our Long Neck facility, Rescue 80 from our Oak Orchard facility and Command 80 under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Ryan Mock.

It appears that a brown Acura MDX SUV was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and failed to recognize a slower moving or stopped vehicle at the intersection. The Acura MDX struck the rear of a Ford Excursion and bouncing into the eastbound traffic lanes striking a Jeep Wrangler nearly head-on.

Emergency response personnel were assigned to coordinate mitigation efforts for traffic control, patient assessment, vehicle stabilization, and overall incident management.

Additional emergency medical resources were requested from the Lewes Fire Department and Sussex County Paramedics due to the availability of the local EMS provider.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
