Nature: Structure Fire – Assist Milton (Station #85)

Address: 28453 Martins Farm Rd Milton, DE 19968

On Friday, March 2nd, the Indian River and Lewes fire companies were alerted to assist Milton Fire Company on a working structure fire off of Martin’s Farm Road outside of Harbeson, Delaware. It was reported to be a working structure fire approximately 30 x 60 with exposures to other structures and a residential structure.  Initial reports indicated this could be some type of barn or large farm building.

Command 82, under the direction of Chief Wally Evans, arrived on scene and identified that this incident was located on a long dirt lane and requested the first due piece of apparatus to lay the 5” inch (large diameter) hose from the main road to the structure.

All other responding units were requested to remain on the main road and have their manpower resources respond.

The Incident Command structure was transferred to Chief 85 – JR Clark upon his arrival at the incident location.

The next due apparatus was assigned to charge the 5” hose and function as a water supply operation.

Engines #80-3 and #80-1 were required to supply water and then replenish at nearby fire hydrants.

All manpower resources were requested to assist with fire suppression, overhaul and extinguishment.

The Memorial and Ellendale fire companies were alerted to provide stand-by coverage assignments.

It appears that much of the structure is a complete loss.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
