Nature: Service Call

Address: White House Beach Marina or Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp - Millsboro, 19966

On Sunday afternoon, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was requested to assist the Delaware State Police, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) Marine Police, the Millsboro Fire Company Dive Team and the Selbyville Fire Company Dive Team with a vehicle recovery assignment.

The specific incident request was for the Millsboro and Selbyville dive teams to assist with location and recovery of missing vehicle that was suspected of running in the water somewhere in the Long Neck communities.

The Delaware State Police and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) Marine Police performed patrols via water and ground in order to develop the appropriate location of the vehicle.

The vehicle was discovered completely submerged in the waterway off of the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ram.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was requested to provide a marine unit response to assist if complications were encountered, an additional request for manpower resources was tendered to ensure sufficient resources were available if needed and then because of the temperature a Rescue unit was offered to ensure a warm climate if needed for the divers.

The incident response included the following units: Millsboro Fire Company Dive Team, Selbyville Fire Company Dive Team, Indian River’s Marine Response Unit #80-8, Brush #80-00 with 80 Marine 2, Rescue 80, and the Delaware State Fire Police.

It appears that the dark green Dodge Pick-up entered the water at Massey’s Landing sometime the previous Saturday evening for an unknown reason to the volunteer emergency response personnel.

The divers secured the vehicle and attached chains, straps, and hoist for Bunting’s Garage to extract the submerged vehicle from the water.

The Delaware State Police and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) Marine Police are investigating.
