Early Friday morning of January 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to provide an engine cover up (stand-by) assignment for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company while they mitigated a working residential manufactured home fire in the Sea Air development off of Highway 1 near Rehoboth.

Initial emergency dispatches including the Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, and Lewes fire companies to a working structure fire in Sea Air.

Emergency response united arrived to find a single mobile home with heavy smoke and fire. All companies worked to extinguish fire with the scene later being placed under control and units returned.

Fire that damaged three Sea Air homes in Rehoboth caused by heating system malfunction

State Fire Marshal investigators say a blaze early this morning at a home in the Sea Air Mobile Home Park in Rehoboth Beach was caused by a malfunction in the central heating system. Fire crews from Rehoboth, Lewes, Bethany Beach and Indian River found heavy smoke and fire visible through the roof. Several neighboring mobile homes were also damaged. Damage to the initial home is estimated at $65,000 – damage to the other homes is estimated at $72,500.

NEWS RELEASE:

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated a mobile home fire on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 2:47 am in the Sea Air Mobile Home Park, on the 19000 block of Sea Air Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The Rehoboth Beach Fire Department, assisted by the Bethany Beach, Lewes and Indian River Fire Departments, responded to scene. Upon arrival they encountered heavy smoke coming from a mobile home and shortly after fire visible through the roof.

Fire spread from the mobile home and heavily damaged two adjacent mobile homes with an additional mobile home and shed receiving minor damage.

Damages for the mobile home where the fire originated have been estimated at $65,000.

The exposure damages are estimated at $72,500.

None of the homes were occupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Delaware State Fire Marshal Investigators have determined the fire originated in the home’s central heating system and was caused by a malfunction.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Firemen from Lewes, Rehoboth and Bethany spent several hours this morning putting out a blaze at Sea Air Village.

Firemen got the call just after 3 a.m., when neighbors called 9-1-1 to report an explosion.

One house was completely destroyed; two other homes nearby sustained major smoke and fire damage.

No word yet on if there were any injuries or what caused the fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.
