First Incident At approximately, 1:06 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident in the Peninsula at the end of Bay Farm Road for a reported subject fallen from a moving truck. The Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) were also alerted for this incident. Engine #80-5 under the operational command of Jason Faulkner, an appointed fire line officer, responded from the Long Neck Station and Rescue 80 under the operational command of Hayden Klingler, an elected fire line officer responded from the Oak Orchard Station. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit and Rescue were cancelled while enroute to the incident location. The injured person was transferred to nearby medical facilities by the local emergency medical service provider. The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized for traffic control. Second Incident: At approximately 5:05 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway in the vicinity of Shore Plaza Drive. It was reported to have a multiple vehicle rear end type collision incident. Engine #80-5 responded from the Long Neck facility. There were very minimal injuries, if any associated with this incident. The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized for traffic control. Third Incident: At approximately 5:10 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm incident on River Road near the development of Warwick Park. The emergency apparatus responding to the earlier vehicle accident was re-directed to this incident. This was an inattentive cooking situation and the residential homeowner was apprised of the process. Fourth Incident At approximately 6:21 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle collision on Long Neck Road in the vicinity of Baywood. It was reported to have a single vehicle incident involving a few utility poles. Ryan Mock, an elected fire line officer responded directly to the incident location and apprised emergency response units that a single SUV type vehicle had struck a utility pole and to prepare for extrication measures. Engine #80-5 responded from the Long Neck facility and Rescue 80 responded from the Oak Orchard facility. All crew members were assigned to assist with patient stabilization; stabilize the vehicle, secure the scene, prepare for a door pop scenario and provide assistance with traffic control. It appears that a single black Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling south on Long Neck Road and sideswiped an earlier utility pole before striking the next utility pole head on. The vehicle was clearly traveling south on the northbound side of the roadway's grassy shoulder at the time of the collision. The occupant was transported to nearby medical facilities by the local emergency medical service provider. The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized for traffic control. The Delaware State Police are investigating the aformentioned vehicle incidents. Additional information may be viewed at the following website: (1) www.wgmd.com http://www.wgmd.com/?p=40267 3 vehicle crashes keep Indian River VFC crews busy Tuesday Indian River Fire and Emergency crews were kept busy Tuesday afternoon with three vehicle crashes in the space of under 6 hours. Crews were first called just after 1pm when someone fell from a moving truck at the Peninsula. Crews were able to find the injured person who was taken to an area medical facility. Just after 5pm Indian River was called for a vehicle crash on Route 24 near the entrance to Shore Plaza. Crews found a multiple vehicle rear end collision with minimal injuries. Just before 6:30 crews were called when an SUV went head-on into a utility pole – shattering the pole. Indian River officials say the SUV was southbound and sideswiped one utility pole – then hit another head on. One person was taken to the hospital. That crash is also being investigated by the State Police.
