Nature: Vehicle Accident

On Wednesday evening, May 29^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Long Neck Road involving a vehicle into the marsh and occupants and canine were unable to self-extricate.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-1, Brush #80-00 and Deputy Chief 80-15 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Police.  Additional alerts included the local emergency medical services provider.

Emergency response crew assignments included assisting the occupants of the vehicle back to the roadway as well as removing the canine from the vehicle.

It appears that a red Volkswagen sedan was traveling on Long Neck Road and crossed into the opposite lanes and left the roadway for an unknown reason running into the marshy area alongside the roadway.  Unfortunately, the tidal conditions were such that the marshy area was very muddy.  The emergency response personnel that accessed the vehicle donned submersible suits to avoid conditions of the area.  There did not appear to be any injuries associated with the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
