Story
Thursday July, 7 2011 @ 22:47:04 Nature: Alarm Company Address: 32980 Shoppes @ Long Neck Blvd, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday evening, July 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at the Shoppes of Long Neck behind Grotto’s Pizza on Long Neck Road. Engine #80-3 responded from the Long Neck facility and was the first arriving unit and identified both visual and audible alarms were present. Apparatus Officer Ryan Mock evaluated the initial incident to determine a visible water flow situation in one apartment immediate upon entering and causing significant accumulation in the unit. Engine #80-5 was assigned to assist with an overall evaluation of the incident to determine cause. Ladder 80 was directed to the incident location and prepare for set-up while Rescue 80 was requested to respond with wet/dry vacs. Upon evaluation it was determined to have broken interior water sprinkler head based upon clothes hanger fragments left in the ceiling area sprinkler. This broken sprinkler head allowed water intrusion into the apartment complex. The Maintenance Personnel for the complex were notified and the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company turned the scene back over to the management firm for remedy. It was recommended that a residential restoration company be contracted to provide mitigation services.
