Wednesday July, 6 2011 @ 14:03:26 Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS Address: 33002 - 33657 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 Wednesday July, 6 2011 @ 14:22:40 Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm Location: Cedar Tree Medical Center Address: 32711 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Wednesday afternoon, July 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a serious personal injury accident on Long Neck Road in the area of the Pot Nets Corporate Offices and the sharp curve. It appears that a dark blue vehicle was traveling on Long Neck Road near the corporate offices of Pot Nets and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking numerous guide wires and a utility pole causing a significant electrical outrage for residents and motorist in the area. Second Assistant Chief Ryan Mock was in the vicinity and responded to the incident and reported a single vehicle into a utility pole with significant front end damage. The vehicle’s occupant was unresponsive and trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency response units were identified to initiate vehicle stabilization, assist with patient stabilization and prepare for extrication measures. The Delaware State Fire Police were directed to close Long Neck Road and provide traffic detours for the duration of the incident. Engine #80-5 was the initial responding unit and set-up for stabilization and extrication. Rescue 80 was the second due responding unit and was assigned to coordinate assistance with the aforementioned assignment. Other crew members were assigned to establish a water shield to protect the vehicle occupant during the heavy rain conditions. The Delaware State Police are investigating and the Delaware Department of Transportation was requested to provide traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident. Additional resources were required to coordinate traffic control measures at the intersections along Long Neck Road and John J. Williams Highway in the immediate area as a result of this incident and recent periods of inclement weather. During the incident, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company received a second incident for an automatic fire alarm at the Cedar Tree Medical Center. Rescue 80 was diverted to handle this emergency incident at Cedar Tree Medical Center. The crash was reported to the 911 center at approximately 2:02 p.m. The crash occurred on Longneck Road in the area of Pot Nets Bayside. A preliminary investigation suggests the crash involves one vehicle into a tree. Long Neck Road in the area of Pot Nets Bayside is currently closed to local traffic. Crossan, Jr-80 Millsboro, De (Deceased) Updated Resume: Long Neck/Millsboro-Delaware State Police earlier today responded to a motor vehicle crash on Long Neck Road .2 miles S/O Pot Nets Road CR 22C. The crash involved a 2000 Ford Taurus driven by Herbert E. Crossan Jr-80 of Longneck/Millsboro Delaware. Crossan was traveling northbound on Long Neck Road toward John J. Williams Highway, rounding a sharp left curve in the roadway. Crossan’s vehicle for an unknown reason exited the east edge of the roadway and traveled 300 feet around the entire curve before colliding head-on with a telephone pole. Earlier information obtained advised Crossan collided with a tree (Tree information is incorrect). Crossan was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Crossan was the sole occupant of the Ford Taurus. A preliminary investigation does not indicate alcohol or speed as a factor in the crash however the investigation is on going.
