Story
Thursday June, 9 2011 @ 23:27:22 Nature: Electrical Hazard Location: Long Neck Road on right before Rehoboth Shores Address: 34568 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday evening, June 9th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an electrical hazard on Long Neck Road between the sharp curves and Rehoboth Shores. Engine #80-1 responded from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 responded from the Long Neck facility. Duty Officer Ryan Mock coordinated the incident command assignment and requested that Engine #80-1 proceed past the utility pole and Engine #80-3 stop prior to the utility pole. Mock notified the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center that this incident was a pole file at the very top and requested a response from the Delaware Electric Cooperative to mitigate the circumstances. Indian River crew stood by awaiting the arrival of the Delaware Electric Coop and periodically wet down the dry brush, weeds and wooded area nearby due to a brisk windy condition. Many residents in the nearby vicinity may have suffered a power outage during the incident. Upon Delaware Electric Coop’s arrival, it was determined that the entire electric circuit for Long Neck would need to be disconnected to allow for adequate extinguishment. The Delaware State Fire Police were required to close Long Neck Road for the duration of the incident while traffic was detoured via Pot Nets Bayside.
