Friday February, 18 2011 @ 14:09:05 Nature: Brush Fire Address: 26828 - 27037 John J Williams Millsboro, DE 19966 On Friday afternoon, February 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a brush fire on John J. Williams Highway. This incident was immediately upgraded to a shed fire as a direct result of improper burning of trash and debris. It appears that the residential tenants were conducting an improper burn which was able to quickly evade them and ignited a nearby shed and field/brush fire. Indian River responded with three (3) engines and a brush truck mitigate this incident based upon initial and upgraded reports prior to arrival of any emergency response personnel. Fortunately, a State Fire Marshal Unit was within the immediate vicinity and responded to the scene and updated Indian River of the situation and directed responding apparatus. The improper burning situation was exasperated by the windy and dry conditions. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
