Story
Sunday February, 13 2011 @ 23:47:13 Nature: Traffic/TransportationAcdntBLS Location: Area of Pot Nets Bayside Near the ā€œSā€ Curves Address: 33002 - 33657 Long Neck Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday evening, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident on Long Neck Road near the entrance to Pot Nets Bayside. It was reported to be a single vehicle into a utility pole. Duty Officer Brian Morley arrived and identified the incident as reported. Engine #80-5 was assigned to assist with patient stabilization and to perform vehicle stabilization efforts. Rescue 80 was requested to provide assistance searching for a possible passenger in the vehicle that was not readily available. After an initial patient assessment, the Sussex County Paramedics and aviation unit were requested to respond to the incident location. It appears that a Dodge Pick Up was traveling north on Long Neck Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole causing significant damage to the vehicle as well as breaking the utility pole. The injured occupant of the vehicle was uncertain as to the number of passengers in the vehicle and the preliminary search of the area did not yield any additional occupants of the vehicle. The aviation unit was cancelled and the injury occupants was tranported to nearby medical facilities by the local emergency medical services provider. The Delaware State Police requested the assistance of the Delaware State Fire Police to provide traffic control assistance due to the severity of the utility pole damage and potential roadway hazards. The Delaware State Police are investigating. Traffic along Long Neck Road was impacted for the duration of the incident and utility pole replacement efforts.
