Nature: Vehicle Accident – Medics Requested

Location: 31206 Indian Mission Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Thursday afternoon, October 11th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Indian Mission Road between Arrie Drive and Fisherman’s Road.  It was reported to be single into a structure with wires on top of the vehicle.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional resources from the local emergency medical services provider, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police, the Sussex County Building Inspector, and representatives from Verizon and Delaware Electric Cooperative also responded to the incident.

Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation, traffic control, determination of live wires, vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization if needed, and structural integrity determination.

The initial determination was the status of the overhead wires which were telephone wires then assistance with patient stabilization and removal from vehicle commenced.  The Sussex County Building Inspector declared the building uninhabitable and notified the property owners.

It appears that a brownish Nissan Altima was traveling south on Indian Mission Road and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking the corner of the structure causing significant damage to both the vehicle and the structure.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
