South Bethany Fire Damages 3 Homes Reported by Michael Lopardi – WBOC TV – www.wboc.com SOUTH BETHANY, Del. - One home is completely destroyed, two others damaged, following a Friday evening fire on Elizabeth Way in South Bethany. Two people inside one of the burning houses escaped uninjured, Bethany Beach deputy fire chief Tom Moore said. All three houses are in a row. Firefighters said the flames started in the middle house, which is now charred and in a pile of debris. "The way it was blazing, it's a wonder the houses next to it just didn't ignite immediately," said neighbor Ray Wiblyn. "They did sustain damage but it was far less than it could've been." Moore said firefighters received the call around 6:45 p.m. while en route to a Christmas tree lighting in Fenwick Island. In total, about ten fire companies were called in to help. The fire marshal is still investigating but Moore said he believes the fire started with a car parked inside the garage of the middle home. Wiblyn said the homeowners told him they smelled smoke coming from the garage and tried to use a fire extinguisher. Those displaced by the fire will spend the night with friends, Moore said. Firefighters said the two other homes appear to be seasonal properties.
