Flooding and Coastal Flooding Through Monday Evening

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company will post various messages, updates, and links to provide information regarding Hurricane Florence

Hurricane Florence has regained its strength Sunday as weather officials predicted it will turn into a significant storm as it aims for a possible hit on the southeastern U.S. later this week.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Florence is "forecast to become a major hurricane on Monday," and is expected to grow larger and move faster over the next few days.

Localized weather predictions:

Sunday evening (09/09/18) into Monday (09/10/18):

·         Steady rain, heavy at times, will impact most of the area through tonight.

o   Additional rainfall of 1-2 inches likely, with locally higher amounts possible.

o   There remains the potential for flooding due to already saturated soil.

·         High tides tonight, and Monday morning will lead to moderate coastal flooding.

·         Marine: strong easterly to northeasterly winds of 20-30 knots, with gusts to 40 knots on Sunday will lead to hazardous seas.

·         High risk of dangerous rip currents.
