Saturday December, 4 2010 @ 15:08:45 Nature: Unknown Problem(Man Down)- BLS Address: 34287 Westwood Dr N Millsboro, DE 19966 Upgraded Incident to working structure after additional reports. On Saturday mid afternoon, the local emergency medical service provider was alerted for an unknown medical problem at 34287 Westwood Drive, Pot Nets Creekside off of Long Neck Road pursuant to the medic alert and alarm company notification. A few minutes later, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center received another notification of a smoke condition prevalent at the same location. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center immediately upgraded the incident notification to a working manufactured home fire and notified the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Lewes Fire Company, the Millsboro Fire Company, as well as the Sussex County Paramedics. Emergency response units arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing from the exterior of the residential structure with some neighboring residents attempting to help extinguish the incident. It was reported that the residential occupant(s) were outside of the structure; however, suffered a smoke inhalation condition. Engine #80-3 immediately activated multiple 1¾” fire suppression attack lines and entered the residential structure. Engine #80-1 was assigned to provide water supply to Engine #80-3, assist with ventilation of the residence and Engine #80-5 was required to assist with extinguishment and provide water resources to Engine #80-5 as well. Firefighters encountered a heavy smoke condition with substantial fire and extensive damage to the interior of the residential structure with floor conditions severely deteriorated due to the fire, excessive fire in the crawl space and ceiling areas. Multiples layers of roofing due to renovations created a substanial access concern. Multiple thermal imaging cameras were utilized to locate any deep seated fire. All utilities were discontinued at the residential location as a result of the incident. Other responding apparatus from Lewes and Millsboro fire departments were assigned to assist fire suppression, ventilation, and coordinate a manpower pool for available resources. The Sussex County Paramedics were requested to assist with the civilian smoke inhalation concerns. Other fire companies were requested to provide stand-by coverage for Indian River’s fire district. Indian River's Incident Commander, Jason M. Faulkner, Sr. coordinated the activities associated with this incident. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident and there were no further injuries associated with the incident.
