Sunday November, 21 2010 @ 09:23:03 Nature: Traffic/TransportationAcdntALS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday morning November 21st at approximately 9:23 a.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident at the intersection of the John J. Williams Highway, Long Neck Road and Indian Mission Road. The incident was reported serious with motorists lying in the roadway areas. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was requested as well as the Delaware Department of Transportation and available Delaware State Fire Police to coordinate traffic control. Indian River’s Duty Officer, Jason M. Faulkner, Sr. coordinated incident response resources to include pre-hospital emergency care personnel (Sussex County Paramedics); scene security and preservation of incident specifics; traffic pattern discontinuations and detours via intersections and surrounding roadways; vehicle stabilization measures; scene stabilization measures; establishment of an aviation landing zone; and coordination of incident mitigation measures to assist the Delaware State Police with their investigation. The local emergency service provider transported some patients to the nearby medical facilities in Lewes while the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) transported the motorcyclist to Christiana Medical Center near Newark, Delaware. The motorcyclist and the Honda sports utility vehicle collided in the intersection causing the motorcyclist to be thrown from the motorcycle. The entire incident is pending additional evaluation and investigation. The Delaware Department of Transportation provided traffic control assistance at all nearby and approaching intersections for the duration of the incident. The Delaware State Police requested their Fatal Accident Investigation Team to respond and evaluate the situation. State Police say 74 year old Kenneth Lynch was eastbound on Route 24 when a westbound vehicle driven by 68 year old Belon Pinon of Millsboro made a left turn in front of him. Lynch’s motorcycle was struck by the car with Lynch thrown onto the windshield of Pinon’s vehicle and then the ground. Lynch was not wearing a helmet and was flown to Christiana Hospital with serious head injuries. Pinon was treated and released from Beebe Hospital. Lynch, 74, Millsboro, DE Vehicle #2: 2000 Harley Davidson Motorcycle Resume: Millsboro- The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious crash in which a motorcyclist was critically injured this morning in Millsboro. The incident occurred at approximately 9:20 a.m. this morning as Kenneth J. Lynch, 74, of Millsboro, DE was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling eastbound on SR 24 approaching Long Neck Road. As Lynch entered the intersection on a green light, a 2005 Honda CRV, which was being operated by Belon V. Pinon, 68, of Millsboro, DE made a left hand turn in front of him from westbound SR 24 onto southbound Long Neck Road. Lynch’s motorcycle struck the front of the Honda causing him to be ejected. Lynch, who was not wearing a helmet, then struck the front windshield of the Honda with his head and was then thrown to the ground. Kenneth Lynch was flown by helicopter from the scene to the Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE where he has been admitted in critical condition with serious head trauma. Belon Pinon was transported from the scene by EMS to Beebe Memorial Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. This crash is still under investigation. The intersection of SR 23 and SR 24 was closed for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. It is now open again. BREAKING & UPDATE: Route 24 at Long Neck Rd has been reopened UPDATE 12:50PM – Route 24 at Long Neck Road has been reopened after a serious crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle. UPDATE 11AM: Traffic remains backed up in the area of Route 24 & Long Neck Road after a serious crash involving a motorcycle occurred just before 9:30am. UPDATE: Friday, December 3, 2010 Man injured in Long Neck motorcycle crash dies A man injured in a motorcycle crash in Long Neck on November 21st has died. Delaware State Police say 74 year old Kenneth Lynch died from his injuries early Friday morning at Christiana Hospital. He suffered serious head trauma in the crash with a vehicle at the intersection of Route 24 and Long Neck Road when the Honda turned in front of him.
