Nature: Electrical Hazard

Location: 35773 South Gloucester Circle Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday evening, August 4th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an electrical hazard associated with a broken water pipe that was flowing onto an electrical panel box.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Command 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were required to identify and isolated the situation, shut-off all domestic water and sprinkler (fire suppression) systems until isolation was completed.

It appears that the residential occupant was attempting to install or hang a picture and inadvertently drill into an interior sprinkler pipe inside the interior wall of the townhouse causing a significant water flow incident.   All utilities were shut off with the residential location, the utility service provider was notified of the issue, and the property management fire was notified to have a responder.  The fire suppression system also was shut off pending repairs.  Indian River was able to locate the issue after breaching the wall and installed a temporary stop until further repairs could be coordinated.

As a result of the significant waterflow, Indian River assisted the homeowner with water extrication and effort to salvage and recover some of the household contents.  This issue happened on the second floor of the structure which resulted with water flow concerns on the floors below as well as adjacent units.
