Saturday July, 17 2010 @ 09:55:53 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt BLS Address: Maryland Camp Road @ Mount Joy Rd., Millsboro, DE 19966 On Saturday morning, July 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) were alerted for a vehicle collision at the intersection of Mount Joy Road and Maryland Camp Road. It was reported to have a two vehicle collision with one person trapped in the vehicle located in the wooded area. Indian River's Duty Officer Ryan Mock coordinated incident command and notified the responding units of the specific incident information which included: two vehicle collision, two patients – one in each vehicle, one patient trapped and would required extrication via door pop techniques with an additional ambulance being requested from Millsboro Fire Company. The emergency response crew from Rescue was assigned to coordinate the vehicle extrication assignment, vehicle stabilization, assist with patient stabilization, and door removal to access vehicle occupants. Engine #80-5 was assigned to assist with the aforementioned assignment and implement measures for fluid recovery from the other vehicle. Other crews were requested to establish a landing zone for the Trooper #2 Aviation Unit. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures and closed Mount Joy Road to thru traffic and established a detour via Maryland Camp Road and Streets Road. It appears that the maroon Cadillac sedan was traveling south on Mount Joy Road and collided with the tan Honda Accord at or near the occupants compartment causing entrapment. The occupant of the Honda was transported to nearby medical facilities and the occupant of the Cadillac was transported with a trauma alert notification to nearby medical facilities. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
