Friday July, 9 2010 @ 18:04:16 Nature: Structure Fire Address: 28156 Sloop Ave Millsboro, DE 19966 On Friday evening, July 9th, the Indian River (#80), Millsboro (#83), and Lewes (#82) volunteer fire companies were alerted for residential structure fire on Sloop Avenue, Pot Nets Bayside off of Long Neck Road. Indian River’s Chief (Steven C. Deery, Jr.) and Duty Officer (Ryan Mock) responded directly to the incident location and determined that this incident was a mulch fire that impacted the residential siding of the structure and downgraded the incident response to just the Indian River emergency response units. It appears that mulch may have been ignited via residential decorative sidewalk lights which generated heat to negatively impact and melt the residential skirting of the structure. Duty Officer Mock utilized his creativity and saturated the mulch area and exposures with the residential garden hose prior to arrival of any fire apparatus.
