Nature: Watercraft In Distress

Location: Near Pot Nets Seaside

Coordinates:  38 36'51 and 75 6'33

 

On Saturday afternoon, July 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vessel in distress situation in the Indian River Bay off of Pot Nets Seaside.  It was reported that the vessel would not start and there were possibly four (4) adults and three (3) children on board but no medical emergencies.  The vessel description was 21 foot vessel blue in color drifting near Pot Nets Seaside into Steele’s Cove.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-11 with 80 Marine 2 and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility and Utility #80-8 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response units deploys the vessel at Massey’s Landing, while an officer went to Pot Nets Seaside area for visual observations.  Once the vessel anchored it was easily located near Steele’s Cove and one mariner was transported to Pot Nets Bayside while the other mariner’s remained on the vessel awaiting TowBoat US.  80 Marine 1 was held and did not launch.
