Wednesday July, 7 2010 Nature: Sounding Last Alarm – Maurice A. (Snooty) Mosley Address: Oak Orchard, Delaware On Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 at approximately 2 p.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company participated in the memorial services for Life Member and Chief Emeritus – Maurice A. (Snooty) Mosley. Snooty was an active part of the volunteer fire company for 40 years and held the offices of Board of Director and Chief for eight (8) consecutive terms, and Chief Emeritus for the past twelve (12) years. In October, 2008, Snooty and Tee Norwood, a close confidant, were appointed Grand Marshals of Indian River’s 55th Anniversary Parade, its fire prevention open house and the new apparatus housing held on October 25th, 2008. The memorial services were officiated by Rev. J. Allen Miller of the Community Church of Oak Orchard and Chaplain of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company. Snooty’s funeral procession originated at Watson’s Funeral Home in Millsboro, east on John J. Williams Highway, right on Gull Point Road /River Road to Oak Orchard Road, and stopped in front of Indian River’s Main Station where the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center sounded Snooty's last alarm. The memorial service continued with a formal presentation at the fire company with a Fire Chief’s Helmet presented to his widow, Ardith P. Mosley. The Interment Services were private that the Harmony Church Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware. A reception followed at the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company Main Station Memorial Hall.
