Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: John J Williams Hwy and Bay Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Monday morning, July 9^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway near Bay Farm Road.  It was reported to be a single vehicle versus a utility pole.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Command 80 from the Oak Orchard area as well as Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area.  Additional alerted included the Delaware State Fire Police, the Delaware Electric Cooperative, the Delaware State Police and the local emergency medical service providers.

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization, if needed, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery, and scene stabilization.

It appears that a brown sedan was traveling on John J. Williams Highway and struck a utility pole for an unknown reason causing the utility pole to split and for the wires to fall within the roadway. 

The Delaware State Fire Police closed this section of John J. Williams Highway pending the clearing of the traffic hazards.

The Delaware Electric Cooperative responded to the incident in order to mitigate the electrical hazards.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
