Friday May, 28 2010 @ 20:12:23 Nature: Stab/Gunshot/Penetrating-ALS Location: Stage at Development Entrance Location Pending Arrival of Delaware State Police Address: 26383 Timbercreek Lane, Long Neck Shores, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Friday evening, May 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was requested to establish a landing zone for the Delaware State Police Trooper 2 Aviation Unit in the vicinity of Long Neck Shores off of Bay Farm Road. It appears that the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police and other emergency responders were alerted for a stabbing or penetrating wound with severe bleeding. All emergency response units were required to stage prior to the development entrance pending arrival of the Delaware State Police ground units. The patient was transported to nearby medical facilities by the local EMS provider. The victim and her 20-year-old son, who also was injured in the attack, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and the Maryland woman now faces kidnapping and attempted murder charges. State police said the incident began about 8 p.m. when Dorenda Howard, 36, of Dalton Drive in Gwynn Oak, Md., drove to a home along Timbercreek Lane in Long Neck Shores in Millsboro. Howard came to confront the 47-year-old resident about the alleged affair, police said. Once inside the house, Howard assaulted the woman, pulled a knife from her purse and cut her throat, police said. Howard forced the woman back into her bedroom, where she locked the door and continued attacking her, police said. During the assault, Howard pulled a plastic bag over the woman’s head and tried to suffocate her, police said. The victim ripped the bag away and fled to her son’s bedroom. He came out, and the pair demanded that Howard leave. Howard, who was still holding the knife, threatened the woman’s son, attacked him and cut his neck, police said. The son ran outside and screamed for a neighbor to call 911. Howard ran to her car and sped away, police said. Detectives contacted Howard and convinced her to surrender, which she did at the Georgetown barracks about midnight Friday. Howard was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, kidnapping and carrying a concealed deadly weapon, police said. She was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute on $171,000 secured bail.
