Story
Engine 80-7 Transformed in Engine 81 1980 Ward La France/Maxim Engine Indian River’s Engine #80-7 was a five (5) man cab, with a 6v71 Detroit diesel engine, Allison automatic transmission, 1000 gallon per minute (GPM) Hale pump, and a 1000 gallon water tank. Engine #80-7 was believed to be the next-to-last Ward La France ever manufactured and delivered. Engine #80-7 was replaced with the new Engine #80-3 in February, 2008. Later in mid calendar year 2008, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company sold Engine #80-7 to Beech Island, Aiken County, South Carolina. Beech Island refurbished the unit for active usage. Illustrated below are photographs of Engine #80-7 while at Indian River and photographs of the refurbished unit as Engine 81 in Beech Island Fire Department.
