Story
Indian River Volunteer Fire Company placed Ladder 80 into service. This unit is a Pierce Lance 105’ ladder truck with an 8 man cab; 792 Detroit diesel engine, automatic transmission, 12 kw generator, Whelen emergency light packages, automatic nozzles at tip of ladder; 8 – 500 watt quartz lights; stokes baskets, ventilation fans; assortments of hand tools at tip of ladder; and an assortment of ground ladders ranging from 14’ to 45’. This unit will respond from our Oak Orchard Road facility (Station #1) and will primarily be responsible for multi-story residential search and rescue tactics; ventilation, forcible entry as well as salvage and overhaul. This unit replaces a 1984 American LaFrance 100” ladder that was recently sold to a private collector. This unit was originally known as Ladder 79 and was owned and operated by the Doylestown Fire Company Station #1 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The graphics and lettering were designed by Rogers Graphics of Milton, Delaware. The Apparatus Committee members were: Chairman James R. Wagner, Jr.; Steven C. Deery, Jr.; Harry Dawson, Hayden F. Klingler; and Patrick C. Miller. Over the past few months, the volunteer firefighting staff has been fully trained and acclimated with the operational objectives of this unit. Additional information may be obtained from our Apparatus Section of this internet webpage.
