Tuesday April, 6 2010 On Tuesday, April 6th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company responded to a number of incidents which resulted in the demise of three(3) persons within four (4) hours of each incident: (1) Cardiac Arrest Incident – Basin Circle Road, Pot Nets Bayside, Long Neck, Delaware; Tuesday April, 6 2010 @ 17:47:20 Nature: Cardiac/Resp./Death-ALS Address: 34480 Basin Circle Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 (2)Residential Structure Fire – Lingo Estates, Long Neck, Delaware; and Tuesday April, 6 2010 @ 16:58:00 Nature: Structure Fire Address: 25775 Lingo Est Millsboro, DE 19966 (3)Personal Injury Vehicle Accident in the area of Grotto’s Pizza – Long Neck Road, Long Neck, Delaware. Tuesday April, 6 2010 @ 20:49:49 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt ALS Address: 26090 Shoppes At Long Neck Blvd Grotto Pizza (80) Millsboro, DE 19966 The first incident was a medical assist request and resulted in the demise of the person based upon the nature of the alarm - cardiac arrest; the second incident was a residential structure fire located in the Lingo Estates development for which a person perished in the manufactured home fire; and the third incident was a personal injury vehicle collision which resulted in the demise of the person after being struck by an automobile. All of these incidents were within the immediate fire district of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and are being evaluated by the various authorities whether it is the Delaware State Police, the Office of the State Fire Marshal or the Office of the State Medical Examiner in order to finalize and document the rationale for the occurrence. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company will offer various stress debriefing and critical incident counseling to all of its volunteers in order to eradicate any potential impact to our incident response resources. State police say the crash occurred when Joseph M. Kelly of Millsboro was running across Longneck Road from the entrance of Enchanted Acres. That is when a vehicle driven by 68-year old Marilyn Chapman of Millsboro hit Kelly. It is not known if alcohol played a part in the crash on the part of Kelly. Kelly was 53. Joseph M. Kelly, of Millsboro, was running west acrossLong Neck Road near the entrance to Enchanted Acres, about three miles east of Millsboro, when he was struck in the southbound lane by a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Marilyn Chapman, 68, of Millsboro, said state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton. Chapman was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Long Neck Road was closed for about two and a half hours as a result of the crash. The investigation is continuing, Newton said. (c)http://www.wgmd.com/?p=2312 Apr 7, 2010 posted by: Joe Ciccanti-WGMD News Body found in fatal fire turned over to State Medical Examiner’s office Here is the very latest on that fire that killed an elderly man at a home in the Lingo Estates development in Long Neck yesterday before 5 pm. Where the fire started and the cause of the fire is still not known at this point, but the state fire marshal is still investigating. The identification of the man is yet to be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office. The man’s body was found in the living room. (d)The News Journal - www.delawareonline.com Man dies in Long Neck fire By TERRI SANGINITI • The News Journal • April 7, 2010 State fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a Long Neck man. The fire occurred shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday at a mobile home in the 25000 block of Lingo Lanes off Long Neck Road in Lingo Estates, said Assistant State Fire Marshal Richard Ward. When firefighters arrived from Indian River, Lewes and Millsboro, along with the Mid-Sussex Rescue, there was heavy fire coming from the mobile home. Witnesses said that the resident was still inside. Firefighters discovered the body of a man inside the residence, Ward said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not yet been released. The body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and to determine how he died. Ward said no other injuries were reported. An investigation revealed that there were no smoke detectors in the residence. Damage was estimated at $40,000, Ward said. The cause and origin of the fatal fire remains under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
