Thursday January, 21 2010 @ 20:33:16 Nature: Structure Fire Address: 35486-35629 Pine Dr Millsboro, DE 19966 On Thursday evening at approximately 8:33 p.m., the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a working structure fire on Pine Drive in the Mariner’s Cover development off of Long Neck Road. Initial calls to the Sussex County Emergency Operations (EOC) identified significant concern and the potential for exposures to nearby residential structures. The first arriving fire suppression unit, Engine #80-3, identified heavy smoke and fire showing with other exposure concerns. Engine #80-3 immediately activated fire suppression and attack lines to mitigate the circumstances being presented and immediately requested the status of other responding emergency apparatus. Engine #80-1 was the next arriving unit and was assigned to provide water supply to Engine #80-3 and have emergency response personnel to assist the fire suppression attack crew. Engine #82-2 and other Lewes responding units from 82 were requested to proceed to Joanne Drive and access the incident from the rear of the structure and to provide fire suppression assistance as well as exposure monitoring assistance. Millsboro fire response units were requested to assist with water supply prior to the arrival of the Tanker 80 and 83, their firefighter resources were assigned to establish a manpower pool and coordinate assistance with suppression, ventilation and overhaul tactics. Rescue 80 was required to provide air bottle restoration and rehab equipment. The Sussex County Paramedics were requested to establish a rehab operation to monitor the status of the emergency response personnel as well as the residential occupants. The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the traffic direction and flow activities for the duration of the incident and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the incident. The Delaware Electric Cooperative was contacted to coordinate the utility disconnection at the incident location. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries; however, some of the family pets did perish in the incident. Emergency response personnel remained on-scene for approximately two hours. An additional evaluation was undertaken to ascertain an electrical hazard with the neighboring residential structure.
