Wednesday November, 25 2009 @ 07:14:02 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Acdnt ALS Address: John J Williams Hwy & Gull Point Road, Millsboro, DE 19966 On Wednesday morning, November 25th at approximately 7:14 a.m., the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2), and the Sussex County Paramedics were alerted for a vehicle collision on John J. Williams Highway between the intersections of Gull Point and Warwick roads. It was reported that a single vehicle had collided with a utility pole, causing a traffic hazard, and disrupting electrical service to nearby residential locations. Our Duty Officer, Eric G. Ruckle, First Assistant Chief, responded directly to the incident and reported that a single vehicle was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway and lost control on the rain slick roads while rounding the “S” curve and struck a utility pole at the vehicle's “B” post. The utility pole was broken in half with active electrical wires falling onto the rear of the vehicle. The occupant of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency response units. Emergency response vehicles were limited to the rescue unit and fire police personnel for traffic control. The assignments were scene stabilization, vehicle stabilization, and traffic control. Additional incident response included but not limited to Delmarva Power, the Delaware State Fire Police, the Delaware Department of Transportation, the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company ambulance for patient observation and transportation to nearby medical facilities. The Delaware State Police are investigating.
