Sunday, October, 25 2009 @ 13:21 Nature: Water Rescue – Priority 1 Address: 362 N Coastal Hwy. (Highway 1) – Indian River Inlet On Sunday afternoon, the Bethany Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Indian River volunteer fire companies were alerted for a priority water rescue, south side, Indian River Inlet. It was reported that a male subject fell into the water in the Inlet and was traveling west into the Indian River Bay upon last sighting. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) was dispatched to provide aerial assistance for the incident. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control Marine Police Units and the United States Coast Guard also had vessels participating in the information gathering and search procedures. The Millville and Selbyville volunteer fire company dive teams were alerted to assist with the incident response. The Lewes Fire Department Marine Unit (Marine #82) was alerted to provide assistance at the incident. The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company marine units responded to Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramps and launched two vessels that were directed to proceed towards the Inlet to conduct various search patterns. The description of the fallen watermen was: male subject, with jeans and blue hooded type sweatshirt or rain gear while last seen in the water in the Inlet traveling west into the bay. All marine units were assigned to perform search patterns on both the north and south sides of the Inlet, Indian River Bay into the Rehoboth Bay, Massey’s Ditch, Steele’s Cove, Burton Island and surrounding areas which included the shoreline from the Peninsula to Massey's and Holt Landing traveling east towards the inlet. The Bethany Beach fire company was operating as incident command.
