Story
Tuesday October, 20 2009 @ 21:33:34 Nature: Structure Fire Location: at RSC Nursery Address: 30352 Cordrey Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Tuesday evening, the Indian River, Lewes and Millsboro volunteer fire companies were alerted for a reported structure fire at the nursery on Cordrey Road. Duty Officer, Steven C. Deery, Jr. responded directly to the incident location to identify a newly constructed storage building to be emitting a heavy smoke condition. Chief Deery ordered the first due emergency apparatus to lay a 5” water supply hose and initiate an aggressive fire suppression attack. Engine #80-2 was the first arriving piece of equipment and coordinated the various initial assignments. The firefighters found a lawnmower tractor loaded onto a trailer and engulfed in fire which spread to the storage building storage. The proximity of the vehicle provided extension to the structure which ignited the wall and rafters. Tanker 80 was utilized as a water supply mechanism and the other responding apparatus was utilized for manpower and to initiate a Level 1 and Level 2 staging approach. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident.
