Nature: Residential Structure (Trailer) Fire

Location: 34133 Minnow Lane Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday, May 26th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) fire departments were alerted for a structure fire on Minnow Lane in the Pot Nets Bayside development off of Long Neck Road.  It was reported to be smoke coming from the residential structure.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Ambulance 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Incident Command 80, Engine #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility; as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional alerts requested the Sussex County Paramedics and the Delaware State Fire Marshall.

Emergency response crew assignments included forcible entry to gain access to the structure, fire attack and suppression, ventilation, overhaul, and incident mitigation.  Additional manpower was utilized from Millsboro and Lewes fire companies due to the high temperatures associated with the weather and interior fire.

It appears that a single wide manufactured home with addition was involved with a room and content fire of unknown origin.  Initial fire suppression efforts called for an aggressive attack to contain the fire and have minimal fire impact to the structure.  The residential occupants were not a home at the time of the incident.  Heavy white smoke was being emitted from the structure upon arrival of emergency response apparatus.  Crews implemented an 1¾” line, initiated forcible entry, and gained control of the fire.  Additional efforts were utilized to search for extensions, perform ventilation, and salvage and overhaul efforts.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene security and traffic control for the duration of the incident.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
