Story
Friday August 21 2009 Nature: Water Rescue BLS Address: Steele’s Cove (near Massey’s Ditch) Millsboro, DE 19966 On Friday afternoon around 1 p.m., the Indian River, Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach volunteer fire companies were alerted for a water rescue incident in the area of Steele’s Cove near Massey’s Ditch. It was reported that a yellow sailboat capsized throwing the mariners in the water. Deputy Chief Brian P. Hubbs coordinated the incident and requested the availability of the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2) and directed all responding emergency apparatus from Indian River to respond to the boat launching sites in Pot Nets Seaside. Deputy Chief Hubbs was apprised by the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center that the Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control, Fish & Wildlife Officers (Marine Police) was making a response, as well as the United States Coast Guard out of Indian River Inlet Station. All entities coordinated communications and quickly determined that the mariners were assisted by passing vessels. The incident did not need any additional resources to response and the emergency response personnel were returned. There were no injuries that required medical observations.
