Story
Sunday August, 2 2009 @ 17:01:19 Nature: Traffic/Transportation Accident ALS Location: Cannon Road & Mount Joy Road Address: 30141-30298 Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday, August 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle collision on Mount Joy Road just north of Cannon Road. It appears that a maroon Ford Mustang Convertible was traveling on Mount Joy Road during a rainy condition. The operator of the Mustang lost control for an unknown reason, running off the roadway, overturning, and striking a utility pole. The utility pole was active with high intensity power lines and broke in two pieces. Emergency response units were notified of the vehicle accident and was responsible for coordinating various corrective action plans which included: patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, traffic control, and incident stabilization. This incident command scenario required the closure of Mount Joy Road for the duration of the incident and during complete restoration of the broken utility pole by the Delaware Electric Cooperative. This incident required a significant emphasis on firefighter safety based upon the nature of the utility service wires, the broken utility pole, and the need to minimize the incident. All emergency response apparatus staged a considerable distance from the incident in order to promote incident safety. Additional information may be reviewed at: http://www.wgmd.com/breaking-accident-on-plantation-road.html The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control measures and implemented the detour route. The Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
